Dropping Keys, A Poem By Hafiz

The small person

Builds cages for everyone

She

Sees.

Instead, the sage,

Who needs to duck her head,

When the moon is low,

Can be found dropping keys, all night long

For the beautiful,

Rowdy,

Prisoners.

I like the poem because I had

I like the poem because I had to read it twice to get it. Maybe I should read everything twice to get it.

The question it leaves me with is, who am I, the small person or sage?

I will share this poem with others.

Dropping Keys

Thank You for posting this with such a lovely picture. This poem was placed on a shrine to a murdered "sage" here, in Vermont, this past week. I've been reading this poem as a celebration of a life well lived; I had to ask myself (just once) about the small person. I think just by asking the question we're opening the doors. And I pray that there will continue to be people in my life whom I see as the sage, someone to inspire and delight me: Especially during these times when there is a lot of "me" to work with.
thanks again,
you're the sage this time ; )
